Authentic Guacamole

Authentic guacamole is not just any dip — it isn’t whipped up in a blender; instead, each ingredient is carefully chopped, and the avocados are mashed with a spoon. This recipe has been inspired by Héctor Ismael Jiménez-Bravo, a Ukrainian and Canadian chef of Colombian descent. You can find his tips on achieving the perfect texture on YouTube at Héctor's channel. I have been making guacamole this way for years, and it's delicious!

I made tortilla chips and served them with lime, chili pepper, and extra tortillas
  • for 4 portions
    Ingredients:
    • 2 avocados
    • 1 tomato
    • 1/2 red onion
    • 1 chili pepper
    • 1 lime
    • Green onions (scallions)
    • Cilantro
    • Ground black pepper, to taste
    • Salt, to taste

    For serving:
    • Serve with tortilla chips or slices
    • Lime wedges
  1. Scoop the avocado flesh into a bowl and lightly mash it with a spoon to keep some texture; you can also pre-chop it with a knife.
  2. Generously squeeze lime juice over the avocado to prevent browning.
  3. Dice the tomato and add it to the bowl.
  4. Finely chop the red onion, chili, cilantro, and green onions, then add them to the mixture.
  5. Season with salt and black pepper to taste and mix well.
Allow the guacamole to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before serving; this enhances the flavors
